Invited as a speaker of Exploring Food Export Opportunities Seminar
Date: 17th and 18th July 2008
Singapore exports more than $1 billion worth of food to Japan annually. Last year, our food exports to Korea jumped 25% to $120 million. Exports to Europe and the United States totalled $270 million. These are indeed significant markets for our food exporters. At the same time, opportunities are abundant in special markets such as halal, kosher and functional foods. For example, the global market for kosher food is estimated to be worth US$600 billion and growing at 15% annually. Over half of the purchases are for health reasons and 80% of sales are outside the traditional Jewish market. Similarly, trends in the functional food market suggest strong growth as consumers are warming up to new products which are believed to benefit health.
At this seminar, food experts and regulatory authorities will provide updates on the
latest developments and give insights into food safety standards, regulations and
compliance issues when exporting to these markets.
